Stratagies for lowering high blood pressure. The Avocado!

Author: Gene Patterson

Avocados are a wonderful fruit. Great tasting and great for you. It may be true that an avocado a day will keep the doctor away. Read more to learn about this wonderful food and its great health benefits pertaining to high blood pressure.

Known as the Alligator Pear due to the leather-like appearance of its skin, this fruit is absolutely chock full of potassium. Potassium is known to be one of the key ingredients in lowering blood pressure and maintaining a healthy circulatory system.

Avocados also contain a monounsaturated fat called oleic acid. It has been well documented that this assists in lowering cholesterol. In a study where participants had daily diet that included Avocados, the participants showed a lowering of LDL (bad cholesterol) by 10% and a 11% raise in HDL (good cholesterol), and that was for only one weeks time!

If that were not enough, avocados have a large amount of Folates, the nutrients that increase heart health and assist in decreasing blood pressure naturally.

Finally they have been shown to increase absorption of Carotenoids from salads. Throw in some avocados and you actually make the greens in your salads better!

So, to have a truly heart healthy diet, mix in a lot of avocados into your food.

Any southwestern dish tastes great with avocados: Chicken Fajitas, chicken tacos, bean burritos etc.

They make a great appetizer: Mix it in with any salad for a healthy kick. (remember avocados have Carotenoids, that increase good nutrient absorption from your salad.)

Here are a few of my favorites:

-Grilled Marinated Swordfish with Avocado

-California Roll

-Guacamole Chicken Salad

-Chicken Monetary

-Cheese Scallion and Avocado Enchilada

You can even mix Avocados in your eggs in the morning. Thinking of all these dishes is making me hungry. So enough with that, you get the idea.

An avocado a day keeps the doctor away!
